Social and Affordable Housing Apprenticeship (Urgent Action Required)

Expressions of interest are currently being accepted for the new Social and Affordable Housing Apprenticeship, which is due to commence in early October, subject to the final stage of QQI validation.

This innovative two-year “earn and learn” programme is open to school leavers, existing staff, and anyone wishing to pursue a career in housing. Apprentices will be employed by organisations such as local authorities and approved housing bodies, spending four days per week in the workplace and one day in college (Ballsbridge College on Mondays during term time). Successful graduates will receive a QQI Level 6 award.

The Housing Training Network is a group of organisations that provide housing related training, education, resources, and events. The network maintains this website to provide housing professionals with information on upcoming training programmes, education courses, and events. You can find more information about the members of the Network by clicking each of their logos under ‘Our Service Providers’ at the bottom of this page.

Our service providers organise a variety of training courses on housing-related topics. These range from general introduction/ overview programmes, to specialised workshops on particular topics. For upcoming training programmes and a directory of previously organised training programmes, please see the ‘Training Programmes’ section of the website.

Yes, our service providers run several accredited education courses in Housing Studies, at different levels. These include:
  • Certificate in Housing Studies, Institute of Public Administration, QQI Level 6
  • Professional Diploma in Housing Studies, Institute of Public Administration, QQI Level 8
  • Certificate in Housing, ICSH/ CIH, UK Level 4 (QQI Level 6 equivalent)
These courses run annually. Application deadlines, enrolment, and entry criteria differ for each course. More information can be found in the ‘education courses’ section of the website.

Yes, funding is available for individuals applying to undertake accredited education courses in Housing Studies.

The Housing Agency runs an annual Housing Education Bursary Scheme, which is open to individuals applying to the IPA’s Certificate in Housing Studies and Professional Diploma in Housing Studies, and the ICSH/ CIH Certificate in Housing. Scheme details, including the application form, are released annually in advance of the application deadlines for the relevant courses, and will be advertised on this website.
